Balancing online and Offline

Hi everyone

over the time ive been here ive noticed quite a few members (including myself) wondering how to balance online and offline. some people have trouble because they are really busy others because they are bored or not really sure what to do in the day. so im wondering what others perspectives are and what tips they would have to share about balancing their time here

Re: Balancing online and Offline

Hey @outlander, what a brilliant idea for a thread!

Admittedly I'm not very good balancing my online/offline life. I try to each day put in at least an hour for self-care, although 'life' often gets in the way. I find if life is not going well, I'll retreat to my laptop and will listen to youtube clips or post here. If life is balanced, I find I am socialising more and offline more.

I really need to learn how to balance the two.

Re: Balancing online and Offline

thanks for your response @Queenie its really tricky. its something im finding quite a few struggle with but we all seem to cope in our own ways in balancing things

Re: Balancing online and Offline

Hi @outlander,

For me the most useful thing is having a curfew. I start leaving Forum Land at 9:30pm and I am definitely out by 10pm. I used to say goodnight on this thread here but then I kind-of fell into the habit of saying goodnight on the ocean.

I think offline time is super important. I am noticing that since I got into my new crocheting adventure, this is taking me offline more. I also find playing in my garden and playing my violin super important offline activities in terms of helping me with my big feelings.

I also found it really helpful to turn off all my notifications from Forum Land. I don't receive any emails at all - I need to actually log on to see my notifications.

I guess the other thing for me is that Forum Land is the only social media that I engage with. I used to be on FB a lot, but since connecting with Forum Land, I only go onto FB about once or twice a week, and that is to read stuff, not to actually have conversations. I definitely couldn't cope with being involved with more than one online community. As super awesome as Forum Land is, I think you can definitely have too much of a good thing! Smiley Happy

Re: Balancing online and Offline

Divide the time for online and offline activities and things. Don't mix them.

Re: Balancing online and Offline

I find that I’m here on the Forum more when I am feeling lonely. Like right now at two in the morning and I can’t sleep.

Being able to control the notifications is useful and there have been several times when I have had to switch them off as I have felt that I didn’t have anything to contribute and needed some time by myself.

Man - what did we do before the Internet??

Re: Balancing online and Offline
